Spaghetti Sauce

🥘 Ingredients

  • basil
    4 tbsp
  • black pepper
    1 tsp
  • crushed tomatoes
    3 x 28 oz cans
  • garlic
    4 cloves
  • olive oil
    2 tbsp
  • onion
    1/2
  • parmesan or Romano cheese
    1/3 c
  • salt
    1 tbsp
  • sugar
    1 tbsp

    Heat olive oil in a 5+ qt pot over medium heat, then add onion (finely chopped).
    olive oil: 2 tbsp, onion: 1/2

    Saute for about ⏱️ 10 minutes , stirring often and not letting it burn.

    Add garlic (minced).

    Cook for ⏱️ 1-2 minutes , then add crushed tomatoes (or 12-15 fresh tomatoes, peeled, chopped, and blended), salt , black pepper , basil , and sugar (optional). Stir often and bring to a low boil.

    Reduce heat to low and simmer for ⏱️ 2-3 hours , stirring often.

    Simmer uncovered for the first half, then cover the pot.

    Add parmesan or Romano cheese (grated), stir, and simmer for about ⏱️ 5 minutes .
